Year 2010
Organized and conducted the first live surgical workshop in Inguinal Hernia 2010
More than a decade of work in Advanced Hernia Surgery started with the landmark Workshop on Laparoscopic Inguinal Hernia on 10th Dec 2010. This was fully organized and conducted by Dr.KG Mathew.
World renowned leaders of Hernia surgery Dr.PK Chowbey (Delhi), and Prof Reinhard Bittner (Germany) took part in the event and conducted surgeries in the operation theatres of NMC Specialty Hospital, Al Nahda, which was beamed live to the conference hall.
Such an event was one of the firsts in that region.

Year 2017
Dr.KG Mathew organized and conducted the workshop on Techniques in Laparoscopic surgery for Groin Hernias : The conference was recognized by the Asia Pacific Hernia Society. This workshop included Live surgery on anaesthetized goats. Held on 5th may 2017 at the Sharjah surgical institute, Sharjah, UAE .
IN 2017 ESTABLISHED NMC SPECIALTY HOSPITAL, AL NAHDA, DUBAI AS A CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE IN HERNIA SURGERY
In a glitzy function held at Kaohsiung,Taiwan on 23rd Sept 2017, the Asia Pacific Hernia Society formally recognized the Surgery Dept. of NMC Specialty Hospital, Al Nahda, Dubai, headed by Dr.K G Mathew as a Centre of Excellence in Hernia surgery.
The official recognition plaque was handed over to Dr.K G Mathew, HOD, Dept Surgery, NMC Specialty Hospital, Al Nahda, Dubai.
With this recognition NMC Specialty Hospital became the first hospital in the UAE to be formally recognized as a Centre of Excellence in Hernia Surgery by an International body.
A significant by product of this coveted recognition has been the establishment of a Hernia registry at NMC Specialty Hospital. This was again a first in this region and the registry was first started for all inguinal hernia patients operated since 2017.

Year 2018
Dr.K G Mathew conducted ADVANCED SURGERY TRAINING & HANDS ON 23rd NOV 2018. At The Sharjah Surgical Institute, Sharjah with the International surgical delegates who attended the workshop.

Hernia Excellence 2019
28th World conference of the Asia pacific hernia society was held at Dubai from 28thNov 2018 to 1st Dec 2018.
Dr.KG Mathew was part of the Organizing Committee & Organized and Conducted the Hernia Essential workshop.
Workshop on Hernia Excellence conducted on behalf of ASIA PACIFIC HERNIA SOCIETY AT DUBAI 2019, 7th – 8th Nov 2019.
Hernia Essentials is a workshop accredited by the ASIA PACIFIC HERNIA SOCIETY and helps train/update surgeons to develop skills of Hernia Surgery.
